Kathleen Delaney graduated MA cum laude at the Dept of Music, Performing and Visual Arts of the University of Bologna, Italy. She is a Certified Alexander Technique Teacher (ATCA, Amsterdam) and a Certified FaceYoga Teacher (Danielle Collins Training Course). 

​Her journey has been an unconventional path filled with discoveries, driven by an eclectic curiosity and outstanding observation skills. After studying Physics, she ventured into Linguistics, Semiotics, and Anthropology, ultimately graduating in Performing Arts from the University of Bologna in 2005. Each step of her education has shaped her unique perspective, enriching her artistic expression.

Besides her university studies, she immersed herself in Bologna's alternative music scene, showcasing her talent as a movement improviser during concerts and happenings. Additionally, she explored vocal techniques under the guidance of vocalists Gabriella Bartolomei, Germana Giannini, and Sabina Mayer.

Back then the performing arts scene was strongly influenced by musicians and dancers based in New York and in Amsterdam, such as Trisha Brown, Meredith Monk, Lucinda Childs, and properly the dance style Kathleen practiced is recognised as Post Modern Dance. The focus shifted on the beauty of natural movement, and training the body meant clearing up movement from apparent styles or movement habits in general. BodyMind techniques where the keys to this more holistic approach to moving and performing. In this frame, seeking a way to structure and deepen her knowledge of anatomy, movement and functioning of the human body, Kathleen embarked on a 4 year  1800hrs training course to become an Alexander Technique Certified teacher at ATCA, Amsterdam. At that time she also created unconventional music and dance performances with Claudio Jacomucci, musician and composer. Their performances traveled all over Europe and Russia.

 

Once graduated as an Alexander Technique Teacher in 2009, Kathleen started teaching at Music and Dance Professional Academies and Universities. With more than 15 years of experience, she is now innovative pedagogue who seamlessly navigates the diverse realms of art, drawing from her extensive background, inspiring and fostering artistic growth in her students. Her unique approach blends various disciplines, making her an invaluable asset in the world of education.

In her view embodiment plays a crucial role in performing practices, as it allows artists to connect deeply with their physicality and express emotions authentically.

By being fully present in their bodies, performers can engage their audience more effectively, creating a powerful and immersive experience.

This connection not only enhances the quality of the performance but also fosters a sense of vulnerability and honesty that resonates with viewers.

Ultimately, embodiment transforms performance into a shared journey of expression and understanding. The urgency to preserve authenticity is essential. In a complex social context, promoting inclusivity and combating prejudice is crucial. The culture of fear can silence voices; therefore, we must embrace diversity and foster understanding.  

By promoting awareness and education, we can dismantle those societal norms that perpetuate gender inequality and empower individuals to voice their rights

Tutor at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, Kathleen is immersed in intercultural practice, where embodiment and disembodiment are displayed in the intermedial-digital space and/or in an eco-critical context.

 

As a full time Professor of Bodily Awareness techniques at the Conservatory of Music in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy, Kathleen deals with an finding strategies to integrating the concept of self and of eco-pedagogy in a context where often the ends to gain win over self-respect and self regulation, often leading to injury and psychophysical stress. 

Kathleen has taught Masterclasses and given lectures at the Hogeschool voor de kunsten, SNDO in Amsterdam; National Academy of Music and Dance in Vilnius; Middlesex University in London; IADMS, Den Haag among the others.  Her research on musician's health was scheduled during the PAMA symposium at the Weil Cornell Medical Center in New York.
